Standard Poodles

Poodles are water retrievers and are therefore great mates for a game of fetch or an afternoon of water sports. Early sportsmen of the Middle Ages had great debate with the Standard Poodles as when game fell over the water the heavy coated Poodle would often drown when attempting to retrieve the fallen game. They solved this problem by cutting off all unnecessary hair on the dog. Hair on the chest, lung and kidney area and joints was left to protect the dog from the frigid waters. Regardless of how you choose to have your poodle groomed, it is nice to understand the reasoning behind the standard poodle cut.

Poodles are highly intelligent and very willing to please. They score high marks in obedience classes. They love life and will join in the laughter, thanksgiving and celebration that occurs daily in your home.

Poodles have an outer coat that is thick, wiry and curly. Their undercoat is soft and wooly to provide warmth. Standard Poodles stand over 15 inches at the shoulder.

We are proudly owned by our Standard Poodles. We have found them to be very calm, easy to train and loving in all they do. They are beautiful creatures.

Because of the many health issues that can plague poodles, we purchased ours from lines that were screened for hip and elbow dysplasia, VonWillebrands disease, Addison’s Disease, Sebaceous Adenitis, and eye ailments. Our poodles have also had all possible health testing completed.

Our standard poodles average 60 pounds. They stand 23-27 inches in height.
